Art and Augmented Reality

The Artvertiser, 2011. By Julian Oliver and has been developed in collaboration with Damian Stewart and Arturo Castro.

Augmented Reality is rapidly creating and becoming a whole new gallery space for artists. The space integrates a physical or ‘real’ space with virtual data. The catch is that to access this gallery you need a smart phone (iPhone). The technology creates limits of accessibility in the sense that an artwork does not exist such as objects do in conventional galleries, the participant has to work a bit harder. To view the works you must have a capable phone, the application on the phone and an internet connection. Besides the tech requirements you are free to roam the public sphere day or night.

Here are a list of AR art projects that are of interest.
